Most brands pick creators by follower count because it is the only number visible from outside. It is also the number least connected to whether the campaign works.
The useful question is not "how big is this creator" but "what am I trying to make happen". Awareness and bookings are different jobs, and they want different creators.
| Tier | Followers | Best for | The catch |
|---|---|---|---|
| Nano | Under 10k | Trust, local density, trying things cheaply | Tiny reach; you need several |
| Micro | 10k–100k | Bookings and enquiries for local businesses | Quality varies wildly; vetting matters |
| Mid | 100k–500k | Category credibility, launches | Audience often spread across India |
| Macro | 500k+ | Awareness, brand association | Rarely drives direct action; expensive |
A creator with 30,000 followers who lives in Koramangala and posts about food in Koramangala is, for a Koramangala restaurant, worth more than a national food creator with ten times the audience. Their followers can actually walk in.
Engagement also tends to fall as accounts grow. A nano creator often has conversations in their comments. A macro creator has a broadcast. For a business that needs bookings, the conversation is the point.
Do not read this as "always go small". Larger creators earn their fee when:
Not followers. Ask for these instead, from the creator's own Instagram Insights, as screenshots:
A creator who will not share their Insights is telling you something. Believe them.
For most Bengaluru brands with a limited budget, a sensible shape is one credible mid-tier creator for authority, plus five or six micro-creators for density in the neighbourhoods you serve. The mid-tier post gives you something to reuse in ads. The micro posts give you enquiries.
The mistake we see most: spending the whole budget on one big name because it feels safer. One post from one creator is a single roll of the dice. Six posts from six creators is a test you can learn from.
We run influencer campaigns for Bengaluru brands — finding the right creators, briefing them properly, and keeping the disclosure clean.
